Stan Malandain

Stan Malandain is the driving force behind Tangent and the man who brought the band together in 2014. Determined to find like-minded musicians with a passion for live music, he placed a small advert in the Worthing paper that simply read:
“Drummer – Got Me Own Teeth and Hair, Looking for a Band.”
The advert perfectly captured Stan's sense of humour and love of music. It attracted the right people, the chemistry was immediate, and Tangent was born. More than a decade later, the band is still performing together and enjoying every minute of it.
For Stan, being part of Tangent has been a return to his musical roots. He now plays the drum kit he always dreamed of owning – a 1963 Ludwig Classic, just like the one used by Ringo Starr. Renowned for its warm, authentic vintage tone, the kit provides the perfect foundation for Tangent's sound and brings a touch of classic rock history to every performance.
With solid timekeeping, infectious enthusiasm and years of experience behind the drums, Stan remains the heartbeat of Tangent and a key part of what makes the band such a popular live act.
Before forming Tangent in 2014, Stan built a strong reputation on the local music scene as drummer with the popular bands Wild Honey, Hunny Bunch and Amalgamation, performing throughout Sussex and entertaining audiences with a wide variety of music. Early in 1971, Stan recalls going to Germany: 'When we got to Germany, we discovered that we were signed as a backing group for the Southlanders. They were great in their own right, but it was a million miles away from the stuff we were doing'. Stan Malandain, Ken Suttle, Terry Rushton and Brian stayed in Germany performing for GIs before they went to fight in Vietnam and working with jugglers, dancers and a floor show.
